During the stay home part of the pandemic (when everybody stayed home), Ashtyn and I started writing… and writing… and writing. For years we had collected ideas in an idea folder. Ideas for TV shows. Ideas for movies. Ideas for books. We had probably collected at least 100 ideas if not more. We had at least 80+ television ideas alone. We had talked about some of the ideas that seemed most likely to develop something good and I just started creating outlines.
It started with television. First there was one pilot. Then there was two. Then another and another until we had written over 20 pilots. We didn’t just develop them. We developed entire seasons, back stories, and all kinds of other intricate information. We started entering script contests and winning some. We got feedback and improved our scripts. We workshopped and workshopped.
We got others involved. One of our scripts had a table reading with professional actors from television and movies. Some of them want to be in the show. Another script was going to have a table reading in person but things happened and that wasn’t able to happen. Again, professional actors loved the script and wanted right of first refusal when the show got made. Hollywood actors believed in what we were doing.
Well, getting things made is not that easy and in the interim we have had to find ways to support ourselves. Patreon Is one of those ways. I will say we’ve had a Patreon for years but have struggled to do things with it. Still, people have supported us knowing that they were supporting the work we were doing for FilmDis, which was not paid work. We are grateful to everyone who supported us across the years even when we didn’t have a lot of content to offer.
Now, we have content and it’s coming out regularly! We decided that since we had been creating stories for years now, we would take some of those project ideas and make them for our supporters on Patreon. We see this as an experiment because in every situation, we are writing the content as we offer it to you. This is not content we have prepared in advance.
While we are sharing some info about the 20+ pilots we have, we are trying to actively sell many of those scripts. In the interim, we wanted to create something new.
Enter DAMSEL UNDRESSED.
I don’t think either of us thought we would be writing a romance story. We initially created some ideas that we thought we could sell as simple romance stories with happy endings. A lot of people want stories with happy endings right now, especially when the world is not great. We wanted to offer that.
One of the stories that I had developed was a story called DAMSEL UNDRESSED. It’s the first in a series of stories about the Lopez and Jayne families.
The story follows Sierra Lopez, a single mother and widow trying to run a small farm in New Mexico. Sierra is struggling because the farm is falling apart. Though she has the help of her wonderful father, Pops, and the support of her older siblings, Andrea and Josh, she still feels like she’s failing at life.
Katie, Sierra’s five-year-old struggles to want to go to school, and Sierra is miserable sending her. The farm, though she loves it, is struggling as equipment falls apart and there’s just too much to do for one person.
Enter Jason Jayne, a handsome tattooed stranger, who just moved back to town after a divorce. Jason has experience with farming since he grew up on a farm, and he’s super handsome. Can Jason help Sierra get her farm running and warm her heart in the process?
We wanted something simple with a boy meets girl kinda story. There are some interesting twists that we are not revealing currently. You will just have to read to find out!
BUT if you want to read a cute little romance, we are thrilled to be writing it. Romance is not the genre we thought we would be writing, but here we are. We hope that like us you are falling in love with Sierra, Katie, Pops and the rest of the Lopez crew!
We release two chapters a month – the first and third Wednesday of every month! June 3 we will release CHAPTER TWO!
